As I prepared myself for initiations during the Season of the Goddess, I came up with the following SIMPLE recipe for a delightful ritual incense. It holds very Mediterranean-climate energies, so witches from California, Italy, Spain, New Mexico, Australia and South Africa will appreciate it’s sun-friendly ingredients which are intensely fragrant.

Try this one as an incense of Clarity of Insight, to enhance the sharpness of the ritual. I think that this can be used as an all-purpose ritual incense. All equal parts. Start by combining the sage and copal in mortar and grind with a pestle until fine. Add Cinquefoil and Lavender, grind a bit more and then add the ground Sandalwood. Burn on charcoal. A simple, but focused recipe.

• Copal – God energy, uplifting, spiritual, the New World Frankincense and sometimes even better, if you ask me!
• Lavender (fresh, if possible) – More severe aspects of the Goddess, but motherly and calming
• Sandalwood – Meditative, Venusian.
• White Sage – Cleansing and healing, brings wisdom, God-focus.
• Cinquefoil – Maternal and manifesting, can substitute Rosemary, if no Cinquefoil is available
